December 13th, 1947 This morning, I awoke at five to my seven year old cat, Mimi, leaping onto my bed and stepping all over my face, licking my eyelids with her rough, little tongue. She meowed impatiently and pawed at a lock of hair that had fallen from my bun as I slept. I gently nudged her until she jumped off of the mattress, padding over to the other side of the room where my brother was sleeping. Her black and grey striped fur shone in the light that streamed from the one window we had in our room.
